Stars captain Jamie Benn signing one-year contract extension

The deal comes in at a base salary of $1 million but can reach up to $4 million with bonuses.

“Jamie embodies everything it means to be a Dallas Star, and has since he was drafted 18 years ago,” said Stars GM Jim Nill in a statement. “There was never a doubt that Jamie would return next season, and we are thrilled for both our organization and our fans that he will continue to lead our team in our pursuit of winning a championship.”

Benn, 35, has played his entire career with Dallas after being selected in the fifth round of the 2007 draft. Over his 16-year career, the big-bodied forward sits just 44 points shy of 1,000.

In 1,192 games, the six-foot-three, 206-pound Benn logged 399 goals and 557 assists, while adding another 80 points (28 goals, 52 assists) in 120 post-season games.

Benn currently sits tied for 13th among active NHL players in points, and is tied for 11th in goals.
