President Donald Trump openly fawned over a female reporter on Friday in the Oval Office, joking that it could be the end of his political career.
The scene played out during a ceremony in which the United States hosted the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda to sign a peace deal. At the beginning of the ceremony, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt invited reporter Harian Vernas, who is from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to tell the media what she saw in her country after news of the peace agreement.
“I saw hope,” Vernas told the room. “They have hope now for a better day in Congo.”
Vernas then said that Congo’s president, Felix Tshiseked, wanted the president to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Trump said that was “beautifully stated,” but he didn’t stop there.
“Again, I shouldn’t say this because it’s politically incorrect,” the president said. “She’s beautiful, and you are beautiful.
“I’m not allowed to say that you know,” he continued. “That could be the end of my political career, but you are beautiful, and you are beautiful inside and out. I wish I had more reporters like you.”
The peace deal was tremendous, but many found Trump’s affection for the reporter to be … interesting.
“How awkward,” one person on X wrote.
“TACO puts The ‘C’ in the word CREEP,” another wrote.
“What a (expletive) pervert,” another wrote. “That’s creepy AF.”
“To Trump, a good reporter isn’t one who investigates — it’s one who flatters, smiles, and pretends the emperor’s orange ass isn’t hanging out,” another person wrote.
And there were plenty ore comments like that, but there were also plenty of commenters who backed Trump.
“So many liberals under this post are offended on her behalf,” one person wrote. “But she likely sees the president’s actions as just being kind.”
“You have to be a miserable person to have an issue with this,” another wrote.
“I cried when I heard what she said about hope,” another wrote. “God bless you President Trump and God Bless America.”
