The annual Salt Lake City Marathon returns Saturday, and drivers should prepare for significant delays during their weekend commute.

More than 200 intersections will be temporarily closed during the marathon, the Salt Lake Police Department said.

The earliest road closures will start at midnight. The Police Department said “most closures” on the city’s roads are set to occur from 5 a.m. and will last until 2 p.m. All roads will be reopened by 5 p.m.

Police expect downtown, Federal Heights, the University of Utah campus, Sugar House and Holladay to be the most impacted areas.

“Motorists should expect significant delays,” police said.

The marathon is set to begin on Wasatch Drive east of the U. campus. The road near the starting line will be closed from 2-10 a.m. Meanwhile, the marathon’s finish line near the Salt Lake City and County Building will shut down from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Sugar House Park road will also be closed from 6:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. Other prominent road closures are 2300 East near Holladay, which is closed from 6 a.m. until noon, and 2700 South, which will be closed from about 6:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
