A series of earthquakes rattle areas of southern New Mexico


A series of earthquakes occurred Saturday and Sunday that were felt in areas of southern New Mexico and west Texas.According to the United States Geological Survey, the first earthquake took place Saturday around 7:45 p.m. It registered a 5.4 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was a few miles south of Whites City in a rural area of Texas. People living in the Carlsbad, Roswell and Alamogordo area may have felt that earthquake.A second earthquake hit just before 8 p.m. Saturday. That was followed by another event that occurred Sunday around 11:15 a.m. That earthquake registered 2.4, and was located in the same areas of southern New Mexico and west Texas. There have been no reports of damage from any of the earthquakes.
