A popular rock band has canceled its first concert in more than a year due to a medical emergency.
Alice in Chains announced that its performance scheduled Thursday was being axed after drummer Sean Kinney “experienced a non-life-threatening medical emergency.” The health scare occurred shortly after soundcheck at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
“We unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show,” the band said in a statement. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.”
Additional details about Kinney’s condition were not disclosed. Kinney co-founded Alice in Chains in 1987 and is one of only two original members still in the group, along with guitarist Jerry Cantrell.
The Connecticut concert was the first stop on Alice in Chains’ 2025 tour dates and their first since an April 2024 performance in Las Vegas. The grunge group’s last tour occurred in 2023, according to Ultimate Classic Rock.
It’s unclear if any other tour dates will be affected. Alice in Chains is next scheduled to perform Saturday, May 10, in Camden, N.J., followed by several festivals and an appearance at Black Sabbath’s final concert in July.
Alice in Chains is a grunge rock/heavy metal band that rose to fame in the early ’90s with hits like “Man in the Box,” “Rooster,” “Would?” and “Nutshell.” The Grammy-nominated group went on hiatus after lead singer Layne Staley died in 2002, but later reunited and released three new albums over the past 16 years. Original bassist Mike Starr died in 2011.
