BSB: Georgia Visits Clemson Tonight

Tenth-ranked Georgia finishes a five-game road swing with second-ranked Clemson today at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The first pitch will be at 8 p.m. EDT (on ESPNU).

The Bulldogs (33-9), who have the No. 1 RPI per the NCAA, will face a talented Tiger squad with a 35-7 record. Clemson has won 10 of their last 12 games, including two straight ACC series over Stanford and Louisville. After roaring out to a 29-2 start, Georgia is 4-7 in its last 11 games, including getting swept at No. 5 Texas and #19 Vanderbilt, with a series win over top-ranked Arkansas in Athens during this stretch. Clemson’s RPI is No. 7.

Georgia’s current road trip began last Tuesday in Atlanta. The Bulldogs collected a 5-2 win over 14th-ranked Georgia Tech at Truist Park as part of the Spring Classic to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. A crowd of 15,000 saw the Bulldogs shut down one of the nation’s best hitting teams to a pair of runs on four hits as Georgia employed a staff approach with 10 pitchers seeing action. Tech was hitting .341 with an NCAA-leading 106 doubles. Georgia erased a 3-2 deficit with three runs in the fourth on a game-tying solo home run by Devin Obee and a two-run shot from Kolby Branch. After the Tech game, Georgia headed to Nashville. The Commodores swept the Bulldogs with stellar pitching and timely hitting. VU registered 40 strikeouts and held the Bulldogs to a .179 average and five home runs. VU batted .305, hit six home runs, and outscored the Bulldogs 21-10. Nine of Georgia’s 10 runs scored via the long ball. After the Clemson game, Georgia opens an SEC series Thursday at Foley Field against No. 14 Oklahoma.

In the series’ history with Clemson, Georgia holds a 126-110-2 edge, dating back to 1900. Last year, the teams met just once in Athens, and the Bulldogs edged the Tigers 4-3 in 15 innings. It marked the second straight win over Clemson in the series after Georgia won 5-4 in Clemson in 2023. Before that, the Tigers had won three in a row, claiming both meetings in 2022 and the 2023 game in Athens.  One of the craziest games in the series took place in 2019 when the Bulldogs outlasted the Tigers 3-2 in 20 innings. The game lasted a school record six hours and 33 minutes, with Connor Tate delivering a one-out, RBI-single for a walk-off. Georgia’s pitchers set a school record with 26 strikeouts.

Let’s Recap
Georgia dropped its final SEC home series of the season over the weekend to No. 17 Ole Miss. Thursday’s series opener was an offensive outburst on both sides as Ole Miss took the game 20-11. Georgia rebounded on Saturday, evening the series with a 6-4 victory behind a complete-game in the circle by Lilli Backes. The Rebels secured the series on Saturday with a 5-3 win over the Bulldogs.

Battle Tested in SEC Play
In Georgia’s softball’s 29-year history, the Bulldogs have never opened SEC play against three straight top-10 opponents until this season. The only time a Georgia team came close was in 2017 when UGA faced four top 25 opponents to start SEC play (No. 17, 12, 5, 3).

Packing The Jack
Georgia fans set a season attendance record at Jack Turner Stadium with 52,704 fans packing The Jack in 2025. The LSU series saw three top-10 crowds, including a game three attendance record of 2,478. The series drew 7,098 fans, setting a new Jack Turner Stadium series attendance record. Georgia concludes the regular season home schedule 20-10.

The Go, Go, Go’s
The trio of Jaydyn GoodwinSarah Gordon, and Dallis Goodnight has combined to lead the Georgia offense down the stretch of the season. The three are tops on the team in batting average, runs scored, hits, total bases, total plate appearances, and at-bats. Gordon and Goodnight lead the team with 15 multi-hit games, while Gordon and Goodwin have registered the most multi-RBI games and have each slugged nine home runs.

Juniors Tyler Ellison and Marisa Miller have each had breakout seasons in 2025. Ellison had a combined 34 at-bats her first two years and has earned a starting role this season. Miller had just two hits in 22 at-bats a season ago in five starts. The pair is hitting .308 and .315, respectively, this season and have been mainstays in Georgia’s lineup, combining for 62 hits and 25 RBI. Ellison ranks second on the team with eight home runs.
