NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man riding an electric bicycle was hit by a vehicle in Bellevue early Thursday morning, causing Old Hickory Boulevard to close for a couple of hours.
The crash happened in the 600 block of Old Hickory Boulevard around 5 a.m. near McKay’s bookstore.

According to Metro police, the 63-year-old Nashville bicyclist had life-threatening injuries and was brought to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he’s currently in critical condition.
Authorities said the preliminary investigation indicates a 59-year-old Nashville man was driving his Toyota Camry northbound on Old Hickory Boulevard where he struck the cyclist, who was riding his e-bike in the same direction and the same lane.

According to officials, the motorist said he briefly looked down to change the temperature in the car just before hitting the back of the e-bike.
Police said there was no evidence of impairment from either the driver or the cyclist at the scene. Charges are pending consultation with the District Attorney’s Office.

The roadway was closed to traffic in both directions and reopened around 7:30 a.m.
