Caitlin Clark is out with a left groin injury and will not play for the Fever in their matchup with the Sparks on Thursday, the team announced.
Head coach Stephanie White told reporters that the All-Star point guard reported pain to the training staff on Wednesday night and then got an MRI on her groin.
“I think it’s very much a day-to-day thing how she responds to treatment,” White said. “… But yeah, found out late last night and we will treat it day-to-day… C has shown that she is tough and she’s a quick healer, so we’ll see.”
White did not share the MRI results.
Clark recently returned from a quad injury, which sidelined her for five games — and had been going through a three-point shooting slump, specifically on the road.
She went 3-of-13 shooting in the Fever’s 94-86 win over the Storm on Tuesday in Seattle.
The Fever signed point guard Aari McDonald the next day — and waived veteran guard DeWanna Bonner after she had missed five games due to “personal reasons.”
While speaking to reporters Thursday, Fever GM Amber Cox explained Bonner’s departure after signing a one-year deal with Indiana in the offseason.
“We were really excited when she decided to come here in the offseason and we got into the season she expressed that she didn’t feel like it was a good fit for her,” Cox said. “We talked through that, had conversations, obviously made adjustments to lineups… and we just couldn’t get it to a place where it felt good for her.”
Cox added the Fever couldn’t find a suitable trade option for Bonner earlier in the season, and that it was best for both parties to part ways.
McDonald, who was with the Fever earlier this season on an injury hardship contract, will add depth at the point guard position for the remainder of the campaign.
In nine games this season, Clark is averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest.
The Fever (7-7) host the Sparks (4-11) at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday, before they’re back on the road to face Paige Bueckers and the Wings in Dallas on Friday night.
