Comedian Zarna Garg Is Coming to Montclair and Yes, We’re Freaking Out!

Zarna Garg on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

I remember the first time a friend texted me a video of a mom sharing her biggest takeaway for teens heading to college. “You’ll be surrounded by kids who’ll say, ‘find your bliss,’” she said. Then she hilariously asserted, “Nobody needs their bliss. Everybody needs a doctor.”

That TikTok led me down a rabbit hole of laugh-out-loud soundbites from Zarna Garg, an Indian immigrant stand-up comedian, screenwriter, producer, wife, mom, and lawyer who describes herself as an “all-around nosey, overbearing Indian auntie.”

My husband and I then watched (and rewatched) her stand-up special Zarna Garg: One in a Billion, where we were introduced to her family through her hilarious stand-up. I’ve been following her ever since, laughing at every kitchen convo with her husband and kids—always nosey, always overbearing, and always while cutting a pineapple. Endearing, funny, and warm, she’s quickly built a huge fan base, and her stand-up shows in New Jersey and across the country always sell out quickly.

Now, Zarna is sharing her comedy and radical candor in her new book, This American Woman: A One-In-A-Billion Memoir, and she’ll be making her only New Jersey stop at Loopwell in Montclair next week.

On Tuesday, April 29, Zarna will speak at Loopwell, in a conversation moderated by journalist, personal finance expert, bestselling author and So Money podcast host Farnoosh Torabi. The evening will include stories behind the book, her family, and her comedy and cultural commentary. Expect her usual unfiltered stories and to learn how she made space for ambition and individuality within tradition, motherhood and texting her kids 37 times in a row, “just to check in.”

Zarna won Kevin Hart’s “Lyft Comics” and her next special, Practical People Win, is set to premiere on Hulu later this year. CBS is developing her sitcom Zarna, produced by Mindy Kaling and Kevin Hart. Zarna has appeared on The Tonight Show and Late Night, and her debut film role in A Nice Indian Boy has garnered critical acclaim. Zarna’s podcast, The Zarna Garg Family Podcast, offers a humorous take on family life with her husband, Shalabh, and her three kids: daughter Zoya and sons Brij and Veer.

The event will be hosted by Deb Looney, CEO and Founder of Loopwell, and feature a guided meditation led by Kanan Kapila, Loopwell’s Director of Spiritual Well-being and a licensed psychotherapist. The event is being hosted in partnership with Watchung Booksellers and the Montclair Pod and is Zarna’s only New Jersey book signing and meet-and-greet.

Zarna Garg: This American Woman Book-Exclusive Book Launch + Fireside Chat is set for Tuesday, April 29 at 6:30 pm at Loopwell at 80 Maple Avenue in Montclair. Tickets are $75 per person and include a signed copy of the book. For more info and to get tickets, head to Loopwell’s site.
