Matteo Arnaldi vs Felix Auger-Aliassime prediction
Matteo Arnaldi made the quarter-finals of his last event in Geneva but lost in straight sets to 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. Arnaldi had defeated the Serbian in Madrid at the beginning of the month on his way to making another last-eight appearance. Despite encouraging runs in those two tournaments, the Italian also suffered early exits in Monte-Carlo, Barcelona and Rome.
Felix Auger-Aliassime will be his opponent in round one. The Canadian has suffered a huge drop in form ever since reaching the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships in early March. He went on a five-match losing streak which saw him lose early in Monte-Carlo, Munich, Madrid and Estoril on the Challenger Tour.
He pulled out of the Italian Open due to a back injury and enjoyed a return to form in his last event in Hamburg, reaching the semi-finals before a defeat to Andrey Rublev in straight sets.
This is a difficult one to call, with just nine places separating these two in the rankings and both excelling last time out in their respective tournaments. We think Auger-Aliassime, who made the fourth-round here last year, will squeeze through.
