Ayush Mhatre was at his brilliant best when the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced off against the Gujarat Titans in their IPL 2025 match on Sunday, May 25, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The 17-year-old opener smashed 34 runs off just 17 balls, including three fours and three sixes, giving CSK a flying start during the powerplay.
In the second over, after CSK elected to bat first, Mhatre launched a fierce attack on left-arm seamer Arshad Khan, scoring 28 runs off that over alone with three sixes and two fours. Mhatre played shots all around the ground, putting Arshad under immense pressure.

However, just as he looked poised for a big innings, Prasidh Krishna dismissed him with a slower delivery, which Mhatre mistimed and hit straight to Mohammed Siraj at mid-off.
Mhatre ended his IPL 2025 campaign with 240 runs from seven matches at an average of 34.28, including a top score of 94. Having replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad in the CSK lineup, Mhatre has also been named captain of the India U19 team for their upcoming multi-format tour in June-July 2025.

One fan even predicted Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi to open the batting in the Men’s ODI World Cup 2027.
