WHAT: Olympic & Paralympic Day in St. Louis. Homegrown Olympic Champion Jackie Joyner-Kersee and American Figure Skating Gold Medalist Brian Boitano will lead hundreds of St. Louis area youth around the track at Francis Olympic Field, site of the 1904 Olympic Games, in observance of World Olympic & Paralympic Day. This will be preceded by a motivational discussion and Q&A session inside Sumers Rec Center, and a series of Olympic sports challenge stations for participants to try.
WHO: Six-time Olympic Medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Olympic Gold Medalist Brian Boitano, and St. Louis area Olympians Jim Campbell (1994 U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey Team), Ty Keough (1980 U.S. Olympic Soccer Team), Tommy O’Hare (1998 U.S. Olympic Speedskating Team), and Lou Vitucci (1964 U.S. Olympic Diving Team). The Olympians will be joined by hundreds of kids from the St. Louis area and the general public. WHEN: Friday, June 20, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. WHERE: Francis Olympic Field on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis, site of the 1904 Olympic Stadium. WHY: The celebration is a St. Louis tradition which connects to the region’s Olympic legacy and is part of the Sports Commission’s efforts to positively impact St. Louis through its opportunities as an Olympic city. The event takes place at Francis Olympic Field, the oldest Olympic stadium still in active use in the world. Created by the International Olympic Committee, Olympic & Paralympic Day commemorates the birth of the modern Olympic Games on June 23, 1894. Olympic & Paralympic Day aims to promote fitness, well-being, culture, and education, while also observing the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, respect, and sportsmanship. The Olympic & Paralympic Day celebration in St. Louis is free to attend, and the public is invited to participate but all are asked to register online at stlsports.org/olympic-day.
