Argentinian Francisco Comesana is the first man to qualify for the second round of the Rome ATP 1000. He won against German Daniel Altmaier 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the second round of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico in Roma on Wednesday. Comesana, ranked No 63, will play No 9 seed Holger Rune next. The matches start today on the men’s side for the unseeded players.
It was Comesana’s ninth win on clay in 2025, for four losses. Among his highlights this year, his standout result came at the Rio Open, where he defeated World No. 2 Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals, marking his first ATP 500 semifinal appearance. He also reached the final of the Open de Oeiras Challenger, ultimately finishing as runner-up to Elmer Møller.
