Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova moved into the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne Open by beating Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell 7-5, 7-5 at the Devonshire Park Lawn Club on Wednesday.
Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No 53, will face the winner of the match between Russian qualifier Kamilla Rakhimova and American Peyton Stearns, the No 6 seed, next.
The 33-year-old Russian edged out Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (6-1, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (7)) in the previous round of the Eastbourne tournament.
During the first round of the Eastbourne tournament, Birrell, ranked No 77, won against American Sofia Kenin, the No 4 seed (6-4, 6-4).
