Week of June 23
The relatively young tenure of NBC News’ Tom Llamas as the primary anchor of NBC Nightly News has yielded some positive returns. Nightly News was the only broadcast with gains in total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo for the week of June 23.
This was Nightly News’ best performance in total viewers in two months and its best performance in the demo since the week of May 19, 2025.
Meanwhile, CBS Evening News had the unfortunate honor of being the only broadcast to lose viewers in both measured categories during the full final week of June.
Note: The weekly average of ABC News is based on four days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday). Wednesday’s (06/25/25) broadcast was retitled to WNT-ABC due to the network’s coverage of the NBA Draft. This broadcast was excluded from the weekly and season averages.
According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir averaged 7.352 million total viewers for the week of June 23. It saw a -1% depreciation in total viewers but remained flat in the A25-54 demo, which drew 1.037 million viewers compared to 1.038 million the previous week. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (the week beginning June 24), WNT was down -1% in total viewers and stayed flat in the demo.
NBC Nightly News finished in second place in total viewers and the demo, averaging 5.751 million total viewers and 840,000 demo viewers. The broadcast was up +1% in total viewers and +2% in the A25-54 demo compared to the previous week—the only newscast with positive gains. When looking at how it fared to the same week a year ago, Nightly News was down in total viewers by -2% but up +4% in the demo.
CBS Evening News had 3.880 million total viewers and 514,000 viewers in the demo for the week of June 23. The broadcast was down -3% in total viewers and -2% in the demo compared to the previous week. Its year-ago week numbers were down by -12% in total viewers and -19% in the demo—the only newscast with double-digit losses in this category.

Second Quarter 2025
Looking at the quarterly ratings, all three newscasts recorded double-digit quarter-to-quarter losses in total viewers and Adults 25-54.
Despite an active news cycle, this past quarter was no match for the first quarter. The switch to Daylight Saving Time, as well as the NBA and NHL playoffs, also contributed to the lower viewership experienced by all three flagship evening newscasts.
