Match in Focus
Jack Draper vs Sebastian Baez
Jack Draper starts his Wimbledon campaign this year with a clash against Sebastian Baez, who loves competing on clay courts but can often go missing on other surfaces.
It’s a golden chance for the British number one to get off to a fast start at the All England Club and while the favourite is likely to prevail in straight sets, it’s possible that Baez might be capable of boosting the games tally in one set.
It’s definitely not big-bet material, but it’s pretty much a toss-up between under and over 27.5 games being contested in the match. Draper’s greater power could see him win at least one set by around 6-1, so it may be worth chancing the under.
Adrian Humphries’ verdict
Under 27.5 games
Day Two Longshot
Alycia Parks – 15-8
The American has made a decent impression during her few chances to strut her stuff and with Belinda Bencic seemingly struggling for form, their first-round match could be closer than some anticipate.
Parks, 24, surprised Karolina Muchova in the first round of the French Open in May. She lost out in two tiebreak sets to Carol Zhao when trying to qualify for Queen’s Club a couple of weeks ago, but this bet is more about Bencic’s struggles.
After retiring early in Rome after losing the first set to Maria Sakkari 6-2 on clay, she won only three games on her grass return against Ekaterina Alexandrova in Bad Homburg last week so the Swiss player could be vulnerable in her London opener.

Tuesday’s Wimbledon predictions
Jannik Sinner, Jack Draper and Novak Djokovic start their Wimbledon men’s singles title tilts on day two of the grass-court Grand Slam tournament, while in the women’s singles French Open heroine Coco Gauff sets out in a potentially tricky encounter against Dayana Yastremska.
Women’s reigning champion Barbora Krejcikova is due to open her title defence but the Czech, who missed most of the first half of the year with a back injury, faces a tough-looking clash with promising Filipino Alexandra Eala, who was pipped to the Eastbourne title by Maya Joint in Saturday’s final at Devonshire Park.
Nikoloz Basilashvili vs Lorenzo Musetti predictions
Lorenzo Musetti is seeded seventh at Wimbledon this year and the Italian, who is as consistent and versatile as they come, has another chance to shine in a major.
Musetti reached the semi-finals of the London Slam last year but fell in three competitive sets to seven-time champion Novak Djokovic.
Basilashvili ousted Pablo Llamas Ruiz, Coleman Wong and Juan Pablo Ficovich in qualifying for the main draw.
But these days the 33-year-old Georgian, a three-time ATP 500 series tournament winner, is struggling to hit the heights that saw him ranked just inside the top 16 in 2019, so back the favourite to make light of a handicap concession of 4.5 games.
Sebastian Ofner vs Hamad Medjedovic predictions
Austria’s Sebastian Ofner is unlikely to be easy to dismiss given his greater experience, but Hamad Medjedovic has been posting some decent efforts in recent weeks and the 21-year-old Serb can be supported to come through his All England Club opener.
Medjedovic has yet to win a main-tour title but he showed maturity to defeat Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev on the way to reaching the Marseille indoor final in February.
Elisabetta Cocciaretto vs Jessica Pegula predictions
Jessica Pegula is seeded third for Wimbledon this year and the American could be a force after her victory in the 500 series event in Bad Homburg on Saturday.
While the 31-year-old, who reached her first major singles final in the US Open last September, is still on the up, she may have to dig deeper than expected in her All England Club curtain-raiser.
Pegula’s first-round opponent Elisabetta Cocciaretto is a renowned battler and the Italian is worth supporting with a handicap start of 6.5 games.
Karolina Muchova vs Xinyu Wang predictions
Xinyu Wang beat Ons Jabeur, Daria Kasatkina, Coco Gauff, Paula Badosa and Liudmila Samsonova on her way to making the Berlin grass final the weekend before last and the improving Chinese player has been installed as a slight favourite to beat Karolina Muchova on the strength of her effort in the German capital.
Wang, 23, has been playing well in general all year, but she had made the last four of a tournament on only one other occasion in 2025.
Muchova is a pretty consistent performer in Slams when fully fit – she has reached the last eight of all four Slams at least once – and the 28-year-old could bring her experience to bear in this one.
Yuliia Starodubtseva vs Francesca Jones predictions
Francesca Jones will battle for all she’s worth in her Wimbledon opener, but Yuliia Starodubtseva has a touch of class about her game and the Ukrainian may have the edge over the Bradford native.
Jones won their only previous encounter 7-5 6-4 on clay in Mexico last year, but Starodubtseva may enjoy the faster terrain in London while her opponent is unlikely to appreciate the sweltering heat.
