Frankie Muniz teases ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ reboot as filming wraps

Frankie Muniz has finished working on Malcolm in the Middle… again.

The actor and race car driver announced Friday that filming has concluded on the Disney+ revival of his hit Fox sitcom. “Just wrapped filming the Malcolm in the Middle reboot, and man, I’m still reeling,” Muniz, 39, wrote on social media. “This experience was straight-up incredible — like stepping back into Malcolm’s wild world but with all the love and chaos cranked to 11.”

Muniz gushed about working with his old and new Malcolm costars. “Reuniting with the cast, getting to know some new characters, laughing till it hurt, and making new memories on set felt like a dream I didn’t want to wake up from,” he wrote. “It went by so fast, like a blur of perfect moments. I wish it could go on forever.”

The actor, who was just 14 when Malcolm began its seven-season run, said he appreciated revisiting the show that made him a star now that he’s an adult. “I’m so happy to have gotten the chance to relive being on this show with a greater appreciation of  what we were making knowing how many people around the world truly love Malcolm and his family,” Muniz said.

Muniz, who has focused more on NASCAR racing than acting in recent years, said that the Malcolm revival has given him newfound appreciation for performing. “Another big thing I am taking away from this experience is how much I truly love being an actor,” he wrote. “I never officially felt like that label fit me, but now I wear that label proudly and hope to do so much more of it in the future. I am so sad to have to say goodbye to my MITM crew, I love each and everyone of you.”

The actor also noted that he’s taken tons of photos with his costars, but the show’s parent company doesn’t want him to share them yet. “I had so many incredible pictures of all the cast I wanted to post but Disney won’t let me,” he wrote. “So imagine a picture of all of us together, having the time of our lives!”

Muniz concluded his message with a nod to the show’s original theme song. “And PS: Life’s Still Unfair,” he wrote.

The four-episode Malcolm in the Middle revival will reunite Muniz with his screen parents Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, as well as his TV brothers Christopher Masterson (Francis) and Justin Berfield (Reese). However, the show’s youngest two children have been recast for the reboot, as Dewey, who was played by Erik Per Sullivan on the original series, will now be portrayed by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark. And the role of Jamie, who was introduced in season 4 and was originally played by James and Lukas Rodriguez, will now be filled by Anthony Timpano.

The revival will see Malcolm, girlfriend Tristan (Kiana Madeira), and daughter Leah (Keeley Karsten) visit the rest of his family as Cranston and Kaczmarek’s characters celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. A premiere date for the new series has yet to be announced.
